PROTECTING PEOPLE THROUGH NATURE
We produced a report with the WWF demonstrating how natural World Heritage sites can deliver long-term economic, social and environmental benefits for people and our planet. The report shows that over half of these sites face significant threats.
KENYA
Surveying smallholder tea farmers’ responses to frost mitigation
As part of USAID and NASA’s SERVIR initiative, we conducted a survey of 425 smallholder tea farmers in Kericho and Nandi Hills, Kenya, to examine their current behavior towards frost mitigation and response, and their perceptions as to the potential value of frost monitoring technology.
ASIA
Protecting tigers from Asia’s infrastructure development boom
We developed a report with the WWF exploring how to double the number of wild tigers by safeguarding them from the threats of infrastructure development. We outlined specific calls to action for governments, multilateral banks, private investors and the public.
GLOBAL
Supporting sustainable fisheries
We worked with a network of local NGOs and social enterprises in Indonesia and Chile to conceptualize and test new incentive models and livelihood programs to support artisanal fishers as they transition to more sustainable fishing practices.
AUSTRALIA
Protecting the great barrier reef
We produced a report with the WWF demonstrating the economic importance of the Great Barrier Reef as it faces increased threats from coastline industrialization. Our research presented undeniable reason for governments, businesses and investors to consider the welfare of the reef in future development.
CHINA
Catalyzing adoption of clean cookstoves in China
Dalberg conducted an in-depth market assessment and developed detailed recommendations to catalyze adoption of clean cookstoves in China. Our work is informed the strategy for the Chinese government’s three-year pilot program that will contribute toward a large scale national stoves program.
CENTRAL AMERICA
Scaling access to clean cooking solutions in Central America
We supported the World Bank and the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua in scaling and reaching universal access to clean cooking solutions by developing a roadmap and investment prospectus for the 2015-2019.
GLOBAL
Developing the field of planetary health
We worked with the Rockefeller Foundation to develop a new approach to addressing global human health challenges by understanding the underlying environmental foundations for health. We then identified specific entry points for investment. This new approach – Planetary Health – seeks to uncover new solutions to entrenched as well as emerging health challenges in developed and developing countries.
HAITI
Analyzing taxes and tariffs for clean cookstoves and fuels in Haiti
We identified potential impacts of changing tax and tariff policies on the uptake of clean cookstoves and fuels in Haiti. If the Haitian government were to reduce the 15% tariff and tax on clean cookstoves, we predict annual sales would rise by 13%.
Our Clients
After a year before the end of the Obama administration, we began the process of planning the transition of Reach Higher – Mrs. Obama’s college access and completion initiative – from the White House to Civic Nation, a new non-profit. Without its support, we would have gotten off to a much rockier start. Dalberg was thoughtful, responsive, and detail-oriented, reassuring and were great teachers. It’s been a blessing working with them.
